HOW TO HELP
Background
Information:
Waveland was a town of nearly 8,000 residents before Hurricane
Katrina devastated the area in August of 2005. Only 35 homes were
habitable after the storm. Six months later, at the onset of Operation:
Waveland, MS the town remained a tent city with
only 40% of the population returned. Assistance with home rebuilding and long-term rehabilataion is the town's greatest need.
Accomplishments
:
Volunteer
crews from the town of Waveland, the Hancock County EOC and other
organizations work with Giving
Circle applicants in Waveland on home repairs/rebuilding
efforts. The Giving
Circle continues to address quality of life issues of children and families in Waveland.
This includes sposoring several annual events in Waveland including the annual Wellness Festival which address on-going issues of the health and well-being of the town's residents. In addition, the Giving Circle sponsors and Annual Saratoga Springs Mardi Gras Festival to raise funds for Waveland.
