Richard
is a
cancer survivor. He lost the home he had built his home with his own hands, from scraps and debris
left from a previous hurricane. Richard’s wish is
that he does not have to die in a FEMA trailer, and to have
the peace of mind knowing his wife has a home. |

We are
grateful for this FEMA camper but unless you live in one
yourself, you can't know how miserable it is. My kids have
stayed sick since we started staying in it, because cold
air comes in through the windows. The doors and shower leaks.
It stays very damp in here and our clothes and bed stay
wet and mildew. Bugs get in through the windows and the
shower and my kids have bites on them.

...finally
arriving home... we found ourselves looking at what remained
of our home and our town. ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!!!!!!!! |

Yvonne
recently lost her husband. Her home was not a total loss,
but what little insurance money she received was not enough
for reconstruction . |

...I
pray to have a home for our children again. They are everything.
They are what makes us get up and go and not want to just
drowned in our loss of our home and our other child. For
that we are grateful. FAMILY
OF FIVE NEEDS HELP!

This
family has to pay the current mortgage (on a house that
has been destroyed) and another loan while supporting 4
children. The kids have to be in a suitable home because
they are foster children or the state will be forced to
take them away from the only family they EVER knew. They
not only lost their home, but also their 2 dogs, their cats
and pet birds in the storm. |

I have 4 children. The
hurricane took our home. The only thing that is left on
property is a slab. No flood insurance . Still have a mortgage.
This
family is split up because there is not enough room in the
camper.

On the
day before the hurricane I evacuated taking only 2 days
of clothes, medicines, and valuable papers with me. As I
locked my door and backed out of my driveway I never dreamed
I'd never go back to my home again. |

Tim
and I moved into our home in the early 1990's. We raised
our two children there.
...We
were totally shocked to see our front yard virtually clean
of debris, but the rest of the lot covered with various
roof tops, walls and debris that, for the most part, we
did not recognize. Our entire house was gone except for
a small portion of what used to be the attic over our second
story. It rested on the ground...
For
the next three weeks we spent every day... searching through
the rubble for something/anything. We found precious little,
but realize how precious each possession is when you have
so little left... |
