October Trip: In a few short days, a crew of The Giving Circle volunteers return to continue the rebuilding of WLOX reporter Al Showers’ home. Great progress was made on Al’s home during The Giving Circle’s earlier trip this spring (visit http://www.thegivingcircle.org/alhome.html ), and now a crew will return to Bay St Louis-Waveland in Hancock County, Mississippi to complete the job.
In Saratoga Springs, the Greenfield Elementary "Hats On For Waveland" fundraiser helps to support the rebuilding in Waveland. Read article > The money raised will go towards the purchase of building materials. Two 10 year old students, Ronnie Deutsch and Sarah Chertok, will be traveling to Waveland to work along side their parents in the rebuilding of Al’s home and also to meet with children their age at one of the Bay St. Louis-Waveland elementary schools. Ronnie and Sarah hope to share their experiences with their own classmates upon their return to give Greenfield students a sense of what life is really like for the children in Waveland and their families.
September 22, more than 600 people ran through the streets of Saratoga Springs in three races: a half-marathon, a 5k, and a children's 100-yard dash. This year, Palio Communications helped sponsor The Saratoga Palio: Melanie Merola O'Donnell Memorial Race. (Palio is an annual race in Italy, the most famous of which is a horse race in Siena.) Proceeds from this benefit were donated by the sponsors, Palio Communications, to The Giving Circle.
St. Luke's Lutheran Church/Emanuel Lutheran Church in Valatie, N.Y. has chosen The Giving Circle as one of the recipients of their Fall Fundraiser, the Church Auction, which will be held on Saturday, October 20.
The Giving Circle, Inc is partnering with a student at Lick-Wilmerding High School (San Francisco) who is fulfilling her wish to make something for the Hurricane Katrina victims. She is in the process of designing and creating an outdoor bench with a memorial component in her Fabrications shop class. When installed in Waveland, the bench will become a place for relaxation and contemplation and will be greatly appreciated.
