Stacey Cato’s report from the day:
A Wave of Christmas was a huge success thanks to all of YOU!! The folks of Waveland, MS will of course always remember Katrina's fury and her enormous wave however they will never FORGET the wave of compassion and generosity given by folks across the nation.
On Thursday Dec 21, 06 The Giving Circle hosted a special Christmas party for many of the families in need. As the planning of the party went on, other special friends here on the coast wanted to help as well. A big thanks to Tina Stiglet with the Rotary Club, Laginappe, Suzanne Stahl, Chris with Waveland UPC Katrina Relief, Sue with 1 stop shop and Betty Robinson and staff at the City of Waveland, for their generous donations and also the help with the party. The Giving Circle, Inc is proud to have additional friends joining the circle each and every day while working together to accomplish a common goal.
A Wave of Christmas could not have been any better. Over 300 needy people were smiling bigger and better then EVER from the time they arrived til the time they left. Everyone was invited to eat pizza, salad, desserts and enjoy refreshments. As they finished up eating each child visited Santa and received stuffed stockings and a shoe box full of gifts (provided by Lagniappe). Dancing and games, carolers sang and the joy of Christmas was definitely in the air. As families exited the festivities they were handed a BIG black bag full of gifts for each of their children to find under their tree Christmas morning (provided by the Giving Circle and Rotary Club.) Many families received gift cards and pictures with Santa himself. (Thanks Chris)
Everything Mark and I envisioned this for A Waveland Christmas came true plus some, thanks to all the wonderful people who graciously donated with gift cards, gifts, financially, or with their time.
Over 200 volunteers were lending a helping hand at the event, from greeting at the door to serving food for families and assisting Santa as his elves.
Thanks again for the wonderful generosity shown towards Waveland, MS and the families this Christmas!!!
