Our house was
completely destroyed along with 3 cars. We also lost 2 dogs, 6 cats,
and 6 birds. We had no idea the hurricane would be so bad and evacuated
to a family home in the Bay, but only left with the clothes on our
backs. We adopted our 3 year old son the Monday before Katrina.
We have 3 other foster children that we hope to adopt in the near
future. We did not have flood insurance but we were told by a State
Farm adjustor originally that our home was destroyed by a tornado
so we would receive a 265,000 plus living expenses. He assured us
that it was a done deal and that we would have our check in 7-10
days. On the 9th day he called saying that they had reinspected
and that our house was completely destroyed by a flood so therefore
they are not paying us anything. We are still paying a 130,000 mortgage
on a house that is gone. We are eligible for a SBA loan so our plan
we hope is to rebuild with the help of friends and volunteers.
