Serge Shishik Memorial Local Team Member of the Year Award:
Serge exemplified what The Giving Circle is all about. He had volunteered for countless projects and missions. Whether it was working to help repair a local non-profit organization or build a wheelchair ramp for a disabled parent in Saratoga, Serge was there. Serge traveled to Hurricane Katrina ravaged Waveland, Mississippi to help build a stage for children in an all but forgotten community park. Not only did he help build the stage but he designed it as well and brought along his son to teach him the importance of giving back. He was also instrumental in assisting in relief work in Staten Island after Hurricane Sandy struck. Serge went down to Staten Island multiple times to asset in the rebuilding of at least 4 homes in a two year period. We are naming our local volunteer of the year award after Serge because he embodied the selfless acts of compassion the Giving Circle was founded on. When Serge got involved in the Giving Circle he really got involved. No matter what the project, or where it was, you could always count on Serge to be there working incredibly hard and always with a smile on his face. You could always count on him to get the job done and to light up the room while doing it. Serge was a one of a kind individual that was sadly taken from us far too soon. We miss him deeply and honor his memory by naming this award after him.
