The Giving Circle Members to Walk Ten Hours In Saratoga to Remember 10 Year Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina

It’s Not Just Travers Day Tomorrow in Saratoga!

What: Members of the Giving Circle will walk for 10 hours tomorrow to commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.  Our founder, Mark Bertrand, will walk barefoot to signify the suffering of those that lost lives and homes.

The Giving Circle was born in 2005 with one simple mission of compassion. Provide toys to children in the Gulf Coast whose lives were destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. Jockeys’ Aaron Gryder and Shane Sellers teamed up with local athletic trainer Mark Bertrand (Giving Circle founders) to provide toys to over 7,000 children.  In 2006, Saratoga Springs adopted Waveland Mississippi as its domestic sister city.  The Giving Circle, along with many local residents and students, traveled to Waveland, MS over 25 times to help rebuild homes and lives. Our dedicated all-volunteer organization is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.

The Giving Circle is a Saratoga Springs based non-profit, all volunteer organization that assists families and communities in need all over the Capital District and all over the globe.  Whether its building a wheel chair ramp in Saratoga, hosting a dance camp in Waveland (2015 – we are still working down there 10 years later) or building a school in the poorest community in Uganda, the Giving Circle is there.  Find out more at

On Sunday, through the entire day, the Giving Circle will be at Saratoga Race Course’s community table next to the Silks Room to educate people about the impact of Hurricane Katrina and to discuss the work our all-volunteer organization continues to do locally and around the globe.  We will have Cajun Jockeys and a number of UFC/MMA fighters at the table (including the legendary 3 time world boxing champion Danny Batchelder).  Jockeys and fighters will be taking pictures with fans for a small donation.
