The Giving Circle Outreach Team has been providing help and meals to those living on the streets or in shelters since 2015. For many years, the TGC Outreach Team has volunteered with Code Blue Saratoga (October-March). During this time some, or all, of the Outreach Team could be found volunteering its time many nights a week during those cold winter months. In the off season, (April-September) you could find the Outreach Team providing a family style meal every Thursday night at a local church’s outdoor space.
This pattern continued until June of 2023 when the Outreach Team started teaming up with RISE and its Adelphi Street Shelter. The Adelphi Street Shelter is a low-barrier, 24-hour shelter for individuals experiencing chronic homelessness. Shelter guests are provided three meals per day, shower and laundry facilities, and a welcoming place to “just be.” Care Management services are provided, but not required, as the aim of the shelter is a place where people can have a safe roof over their heads and somewhere to be during the day. Since the shelter is open 24-7, the Outreach Team changed its approach of volunteering and serving meals. Now, every Thursday night, the Outreach Team serves a hot meal at the Adelphi St. Shelter.
